OLA Release Procedures
Player releases are only required for representative play. They are not required for recreational (house league) play.
Please send completed release requests to the QMLA President.
Prior to any release request, the player must be registered with the association for the current year. The OLA ‘Release Request Form’ must be used in all cases where a player wishes to be released from his/her current lacrosse association to play representative lacrosse with another association. The Player, a Parent or Guardian must complete section 1 including all reasons and deliver it to the President of the association from which the release is requested, with a copy also being sent to the Zone Director/Commissioner.
Only the information presented in section 1 will be considered. New reasons for release will not be entertained at appeal level(s).
The association must respond to the applicant within 72 hours to acknowledge receipt of the request for a release. The Club then must set a date, time and location, (within a reasonable time frame), when the release hearing will be held (as approved by the Zone Director), in order that the applicant may be present to formally discuss the request. The fee for a release request hearing at the club level shall NOT exceed $25.00. At the hearing if the request is denied, the association must return the form with section 2 complete with written reasons for denying the request, and provide the applicant with the information necessary to take the request to the next level.
Upon receipt of the updated “Release Request Form” and the appeal fee (shall not exceed $100.00 as per OR7.04) the Zone/Commissioner must notify the applicant promptly, of the date, time and location of the next scheduled meeting of the Release Committee. The player must attend this meeting to discuss the reasons for the release request. The association representative must also be advised of the meeting in order that they can have representation at the meeting as well. If the request is again denied, the Zone/Commissioner must return the form with section 3 complete with written reasons for denying the request and provide the applicant with the information necessary to take the request to the OLA level. When the OLA receives the updated “Release Request Form’” and the appeal fee (shall not exceed $100.00 as per OR7.04) they must notify the applicant of the date, time and location of the next scheduled meeting of the OLA Appeals Committee. The player must attend this meeting to discuss the reasons for the release request. The Zone/Commissioner and association representative must also be advised of the meeting in order that they may have representation at the meeting, if they wish. If the request is again denied, the player’s only option is to continue with his/her current association and try to resolve the differences that led to the request for a release.
If at any level of these proceedings the release is granted (whether conditional or unconditional), the player must present the signed two-page form to the registrar of his new association, in order that it can be attached to the new registration form as proof of release.
